No one lives there full time as far as I am aware. There are research stations such as the British Antarctic Survey research station. Scientists will usually go over there for 6months over the summer to do research then come home again. I met someone once who stayed out for 18months at a time (2 winters and the summer in the middle, then he’d go climbing for his 6months off). He used to look after the station and help the scientists. He said you fly over there but all the stuff you want (like drinks) is shipped over so you have to work out how many fizzy drinks etc you’ll want for the whole six months! He knew so much about penguins too it was fascinating!
