Volcanoes erupt when the pressure of all the molten lava inside gets too much and bursts out! The tectonic plates that make up the earth squash together until there’s nowhere else for it to go except up, out the volcano! It’s like squeezing an unopened bag of crisps, eventually the air has to come out somewhere so it escapes out the weakest point – maybe with a bang!
