There’s two main ways in which this happens, and they both have to do with increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is a major contributor to global warming and the greenhouse effect, trapping heat on Earth and causing it to become warmer.

Deforestation causes an increase in carbon dioxide in two ways: it can do so indirectly as the trees that are cut down to make way for crops or cities often get burned, releasing a lot of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
it can also do this directly as trees recycle carbon dioxide into oxygen, so if lots of trees get cut down, less of this carbon dioxide can be removed from the air.
