      Benjamin Franklin is often credited with discovering electricity, but he merely established a connection between electricity and lightning. It’s actually a lot harder to pin down the person who really discovered it, since so many people have been studying electricity!

      Actually, people have been aware of electricity a lot longer than that – we have recordings of people getting shocked by electrical fish dating back to 2750BC!

      It started being studied extensively in the 1600s,

      One thing I can say for sure is that the first person to produce electricity (and invent the battery in the process) was an Italian called Alessandro Volta, in 1800.
