Laptops are computers that have been designed to be easily carried around and have their own battery so they don’t need to be plugged in all the time. A powerful computer is usually cheaper than a similarly powerful laptop because they haven’t had to make everything small to fit inside it. It is also easier to keep a desktop computer cool because there is more space for fans etc. When you’re making a computer do lots of difficult tasks it can get too hot so this can make a big difference when doing simulations.

Laptops really are types of computers. What sets them apart usually is that laptops have more of an aesthetic and convenience element to their design. To accomplish this, the parts may be more expensive as they need to be smaller, more efficient, and look better! For the same specification in the actual “computer” which processes all the calculations necessary to make all computers work, you’ll probably pay a lot more for a laptop than a desktop.
