Skin has three layers – the outside layer is called the epidermis and it is constantly being renewed as old, dead cells are shed.

The middle layer is called the dermis, which contains your hair roots and sweat glands, as well as the nerves that let you sense things like temperature or pressure.

The bottom layer is called the hypodermis, made mostly of fat and connective tissue.
