Medicine’s been around for a long time – philosophers in ancient times started thinking about how our bodies work and how we could try to fix the things that broke. These people were using medicines extracted from plants to treat certain diseases or speed up the healing of wounds, for example.

We usually consider Hippocrates, who lived in ancient Greece, to be the father of medicine. Indeed, doctors this day still swear the hippocratic oath to do no harm and use their healing abilities to do good.
