The first device that was the predecessor of the computer was made by a man called Charles Babbage in 1822. This did not look much like computers as we know them today, though.
The first programmable computer, the Z1, was made between 1936 and 1938 and it’s considered to be the first real functional modern computer.
The first digital computer was developed between 1937 and 1942. It was quite massive, occupying about the size of a house!
The first mass-market computer that could be bought by anyone who had enough money came out in 1968, and was made by the company Hewlett Packard (HP) – that is probably the one that may sound familiar to you.
